Highway 40 in the west is completely closed between the municipalities of Berthierville and Lanoraie for an indefinite period, reported the Ministry of Transport (MTQ) early on Sunday morning.
More specifically, the highway is closed between Route 158, in Berthierville, and Chemin de Joliette, in Lanoraie, in the Lanaudière region, since Saturday evening.
“Everything is done to set up circulation in the wrong way on the A-40 in the direction is in the sector. Work must be carried out before to allow it. It is too early to determine when the detour path will be withdrawn, ”says Louis-André Bertrand, spokesperson for MTQ.
The ministry confirms that the work to open traffic in the wrong way will not be completed on Sunday. “In an ideal world, it will be on Monday. »»
This closure is caused by the sagging of a pumice located between the row of the Southern River-Bayonne and the Joliette Chemin, in Lanoraie. Traffic is deflected on Route 138.
On Saturday, a motorist shared on social networks a video showing a hole that had formed on the highway.
The ministry recommends that motorists favor highway 20 for their trips between Trois-Rivières and Montreal, since congestion is to be expected on the way to detour.
The organization also invites road users to refer to Quebec 511 to follow the evolution of the situation.
