Donald Trump recalls hostilities against Elon Musk: “whom he returns to South Africa!” : News

On Truth Social, Donald Trump violently attacked Elon Musk, accusing him of having benefited “more subsidies than anyone” and calling on him to “close shop”. An outing that seriously compromises the attempt at reconciliation started a few weeks earlier by the billionaire.

The ax of war is far from being buried between Donald Trump and Elon Musk. This July 1, 2025, on his social network Truth, the American president launched a new salvo against the boss of Tesla and SpaceX, going so far as to order him to “close shop and return home to South Africa”. A frontal attack on that which he had named at the head of the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), a federal commission responsible for reducing public spending.

Donald Trump notably criticizes the billionaire for having benefited from “more subsidies than any other individual in history, by far”, reports Ouest-France. And to add: “Without this money, more rocket launches, satellites or production of electric cars, and our country would save a fortune.” Ironic, he continues: “Maybe we should ask Dog to examine it seriously? A lot of money to save !!!”

Attempt at reconciliation

Words that may sweep the reconciliation efforts sketched only a few weeks ago. On June 11, Elon Musk had tried to appease tensions by conceding “gone too far”: “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week,” he wrote on X.

As a reminder, the two men got closer at the time of Trump’s first presidential campaign, before their agreement shattered in early June. In question: a megaproject of budgetary law defended by Trump at the Congress, which Musk had described as “abomination”. This disagreement had given rise to a real public settlement of accounts.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the elections, the Democrats would control the House of Representatives and the Republicans would be 51 against 49 in the Senate”, was annoying Musk, denouncing: “What ingratitude!” Trump’s scathing replica: “Elon was at the end, I asked him to leave”, before concluding: “I removed the subsidies from electric vehicles that forced everyone to buy electric cars that no one wanted (he knew for months that I was going to do it!), And he went crazy!”
