Several sectors of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches are under the vigilance of violent thunderstorms on Thursdayi. A stormy system swept part of the Beauce in the morning, leaving hailstones on its passage the size of golf balls.
Environment Canada has published violent thunderstorms for certain sectors, including those from Lac-Etchemin and Sainte-Rose-de-Watford. These alerts have since been lifted.
Violent thunderstorms have characteristics, with winds that can reach or exceed 90 km/h and hail which can be 2.5 cm [de diamètre] and more
says Alexandra Cournoyer, weather spokesperson at Environment Canada.
Front froid
She adds that the presence of violent thunderstorms stems from the passage of a cold front fairly pronounced
throughout the province.
A forehead is what delimits two masses of air with different characteristics [et] At the front of the cold front, there was indeed a lot of heat, a lot of humidity. The cold front will bring a lot of instability, a large vertical movement of air. Therefore, all the elements are gathered to train convective events such as violent thunderstorms
explains Ms. Cournoyer.

When writing these lines, no watch or alert of tornado was activated by Environment Canada. Alexandra Cournoyer mentions that there is nevertheless a risk of tornado when there are large -scale thunderstorms.
It is to see how much vertical trip there is [d’air]And enough energy, if you want, in the cloud to create this windbarrow. So, one does not necessarily mean the other, but there is always a potential associated in the sense that the basic ingredients [des orages violents et des tornades] are a bit the same
mentions the weather spokesperson.
Security
She recommends that people outside take shelter when they see a thunderstorm approaching.
In fact, it is to take shelter as soon as you hear thunder, even if you do not have visual lightning or the cloud as such. If you are outside, try to take shelter or find a place inside to protect yourself from flying debris and hail
specifies Alexandra Cournoyer.
It invites the population to closely monitor the evolution of weather conditions by visiting the Meteo.gc.ca website and the Météocan application.
