Oasis returns to stage, sixteen years after the group’s separation

An Oasis fan tries to buy a ticket for the group's reunion tour in Marsden, England, August 31, 2024.

Tens of thousands of fans of oasis will converge on Cardiff, in Wales, where the members of the emblematic group of the Britpop launch, Friday, July 4, their reunion tour, almost sixteen years after their last performance together. Even before kicking off, the Oasis logo appeared on Wednesday evening above the stadium in a learned choreography of light drones.

Friday evening at the Principality Stadium is the first in a series of 41 dates around the world, especially in Ireland, the United States, Japan, Australia and Brazil.

After two shows in Cardiff, Liam and Noel Gallagher will give five concerts in Manchester, their hometown, from July 11. They will then play at the Wembley stadium in London or at the Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh, before the international part of their tour.

Since the group’s separation, in 2009, after yet another argument between the two Gallagher brothers, many no longer hoped to see them together on stage. Oasis, famous for its 1990s tubes, as Live Forever et WonderWallannounced his return last August, a few days before the thirtieth anniversary of the group’s first album, Definitely Maybe. After their separation, the Gallagher brothers continued a career each on their side, without really knowing the glory of the Oasis era, and regularly continuing to interfere by interposed media.

The surprise announcement of their return sparked a wave of frenzy among fans, historical and more recent. Nine hundred thousand tickets have passed in a few hours. Price outbreak, generated by a so -called pricing process “Dynamics”aroused indignation and controversy, which prompted the British competition regulator to launch an investigation into the practices of the Ticketmaster sales platform.

A commercial success

The tour already promises to be a good financial operation. The costs, for all fans, could exceed 1 billion pounds sterling (around 1.16 billion euros) in total, in tickets and expenses such as transport and accommodation, according to an estimate of the Barclays bank. Several tens of millions of euros will go to the pocket of each of the Gallagher brothers.
