A commission requires a billion more for the army

The Swiss army should have an additional one billion francs for ammunition intended for soil-to-air defense systems. The competent committee of the Council of States made this decision within the framework of the message on the army 2025.

(Keystone-ATS) The security policy commission offers, thanks to the voice of its president Andrea Gmür-Schönenberger (C/LU), an additional commitment credit of one billion francs for the purchase of ammunition for long and medium-sized DSA systems as well as for medium-distance indirect fire support systems, the Parliament’s services.

The objective is to increase the ability to last from the army in the event of a commitment. In plenum, this additional credit had been refused by the National in June.

The Federal Council requires 1.69 billion francs for engagement for 2025, including 1.5 billion for the arms program, especially for new armored vehicles. These expenses are based on the objective of the Parliament to allocate to the army 1% of GDP by 2032.
