This is what stands out from the July 1 quarterly report of the National Register of Individuals (RNPP), which is interested in Luxembourg citizens abroad. According to this report, the number of Luxembourg citizens in the United States has increased by 5% since the end of March. As of March 31, 2025, 18,004 people had a Luxembourg passport in the United States, against 18,889 to June 30.
According to Daniel Atz, founder of Luxcitizenship and expert in support for Americans in their approaches to obtaining Luxembourg nationality, it is the second highest increase ever recorded. The only greater increase was recorded in the first quarter of 2023, as the deadline for the recovery of Luxembourg nationality under article 89.
“Although this deadline was extended later, on December 21, 2022, until December 31, 2025, the vast majority of Americans hastened to submit their requests in 2022, because they were not sure that this extension would actually be granted,” explains Daniel Atz Essential.
The expert had already mentioned in April a growing request after Donald Trump’s second term. According to him, the possibility of living in the EU becomes more and more relevant for many Americans. The current RNPP figures confirm its estimates and show to what extent the political situation in the United States influences interest in European nationality.
