Eighteen people were injured after an alleged fire broke out on a Ryanair plane at Mallorca Airport (Spain) shortly after midnight. Passengers were filmed leaving the plane passing by one of its wings before jumping on the Tarmac, while firefighters and police rushed on the spot. The regional coordinators of emergency medical intervention said that eighteen people had been taken care of for light injuries, including six transported to the hospital, three at the ClÃnica Rotger and three to the Quiironsalud Palmaplanas hospital, without it being specified what type of injuries they had suffered.

The plane apparently was preparing to leave Palma, towards Manchester. The emergency services were called at 12:35 am, mobilizing four ambulances as well as the airport firefighters and the civil guard.
Ryanair said later that it was a false alert. A spokesperson explained: “This flight interrupted his takeoff due to a false fire warning signal. The passengers were landed using inflatable slides and returned to the terminal. During the landing, a small number of passengers suffered very light injuries (ankle sprains, etc.) and the crew requested immediate medical assistance. To minimize the disturbances, we quickly organized a replacement plane, which left Palma at 07:05 this morning. »»
