And for many years, fans are tearing up rare and other limited editions. Some cards are sold for several thousand euros.
In the middle of a specialized shop in Paris, Léa, 29, sits, dozens of Pokémon cards around her and the inventory of her collection open to her phone. “There, they are trainers, but there are also cards’ Spectra ‘stadium’ and ‘stadium of Aragon’. The Timéo collection, 21, is not so extensive, but still, more than 1,000 cards that all recall the same memory: “When I was little, when we went to a toy store, in general, I opened cards. Collectors fall back in childhood. And they are ready to put the price for rare cards. They are exposed in carefully closed glass cabinets. Florian, one of the sellers, explains: “We have a wall of Pokémon cards. There is a Dracaufeu (Editor’s note: a Pokémon card) at 420 euros. The neo edition 1, that is part of what is most rare, it’s 2,700 euros”.
