A reckless young who lost control of his Mercedes at 220 km/h during a race on the Turcot interchange last summer preferred to abandon his deceased friend on the spot and save himself in Algeria … But justice caught up with him on his return.
From a weak “yes”, Yasser Laroui pleaded guilty on Wednesday morning at the Montreal courthouse to accusations of dangerous conduct, a flight offense causing death and bodily injury and possession of burglary tools.
The 21 -year -old Longueuillois was not allowed to drive on June 30, 2024 due to a sanctioned permit. But he still chose to do a street race on the Décarie highway in Montreal, driving a Mercedes AMG C 43 rented early in the morning.
His friends Jahmal Emius Dorcelus, 19, and a 15 -year -old teenager was also in the luxury vehicle.
The victim, Jahmal Emius Dorcelus, was 19 years old.

They thus chased another blue mercedes, also rented, on the Turcot interchange by rolling almost three times the permitted limit, which is 70 km/h in this transit sector.
Mortal collision
The race took a tragic turn when the first vehicle hit a concrete wall in the curve of an exit ramp.
Laroui, who followed closely with his Gray Mercedes, was not able to negotiate the turn and hit the back of a cube truck which was circulating in front of him.
The three occupants of the Blue Mercedes quickly left the scene on foot. Yasser Laroui claims to have tried to bring him to Jahmal Dorcelus and asked the rear passenger to call an ambulance before fleeing away from the collision.
But the death of the 19 -year -old was found on the scene. The teenager aboard the vehicle got out with a light cranial trauma and a few suture points.
If Laroui was behind the wheel of a luxury car, the license plate corresponded to that of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The good one was found inside the Mercedes, just like virgin keys, a saw, a programmer and other equipment that can be used for cars.
Yasser Laroui has no criminal history. But he was well known to the police for his driving behaviors. Among other things, he received around thirty tickets under the road safety code in two years, only in Longueuil.
Leak in Algeria
In the hours following the collision, the accused went to Montreal-Trudeau airport and bought a flight to cash in cash.
Once outside the country, he called Jahmal Dorcelus’s mother using a false issue to tell him that he was “running, that he did not control his vehicle [et] that he [était] Sorry for what happened, that he will have[it] that about his conscience ”.
Laroui finally returned home in August. Once back in the country, the police of the Sûreté du Québec continued their investigation and arrested him at his Longueuil residence three months later.
The police then found in his room other tools that could be used for theft of vehicles.
Yasser Laroui has been detained. He will be back in court next October for the rest of the procedures.
