Hard blow for the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. Only 48 hours away, a violent fire ravaged the main scene of the festival, located in Boom, in the north of the country. Images show a structure plagued by flames, giving off thick smoke visible to several hundred meters.
The fire broke out in the middle of the day on the main stage, the heart of the festival where the most spectacular facilities are concentrated. The emergency services quickly intervened on site to try to control the disaster, while shared videos on social networks reveal the extent of the damage: the decor is completely calcined, revealing only the metal framework of the scene. There was no one injured.
According to local media, the probable cause of the fire is linked to pyrotechnic devices integrated into the decor. The fire would have spread quickly along the structure, and a second home was even spotted by helicopter, which lets fear a more complex technical origin.
The prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into accidental criminal fire. A fire expert will be appointed to determine the cause of the fire. The festival will still take place as planned according to the organizers.
The first edition of Tomorrowland took place in 2005 and last year’s event attracted 400,000 people.
