The cost of the work necessary for the refurbishment of the spaces of Lantin prison (Liège) affected by a fire on May 29 is estimated at one million euros, it comes from a note from the Minister of Justice Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) whose content was revealed on Saturday evening.
Concretely, 600,000 euros will be devoted to “urgent repairs to damaged infrastructure”, 150,000 euros will be used for “replacement of lost or damaged equipment” and 250,000 euros will allow the implementation of “temporary measures to maintain the detention capacity”.
The fire had taken on May 29 in the central laundry room of Lantin prison, between the remand center and the pain in pain. The fire had caused the death of a firefighter, Maxime Coessens. A second had been seriously injured, but his state of health had improved greatly during the days after the claim.
