A violent shock. Thursday, shortly before 7 a.m., a serious traffic accident involving two vehicles took place on the A8 motorway towards Italy, at Mandelieu-la-Napoule, in the Alpes-Maritimes. Three people died, another, seriously injured, was transported in absolute emergency. The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture evokes a “frontal shock”, expressing its total support for the families of the victims.
The circumstances of the accident have not yet been detailed by official communication. According to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azurpresent on the spot, a driver would have crossed the road due to an excessive speed at the level of the exchanger 41 (Mandelieu Est), coming to hit another car circulating in the other direction, with two women on board. The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture specifies to the local chain that the two frontal shock victims would be two nurses, aged thirty years. Bottles of nitrogen oxide would have been found in the car of the speeding driver, also reports France 3.
Circulation difficile
The accident led to an interruption of traffic for a few hours in the Mandelieu sector, towards Italy, according to a press release from Vinci Autoroutes, who came to 20 Minutes. It remains difficult, several highway entrances remaining closed.
“Traffic was able to resume on a track at 8:48 am but should remain very disturbed for part of the morning,” added the press release, recommending to avoid the sector.
