A Gatineau police officer faces accusations of assault and threats to gestures he would have committed during his duties.
The police service of the city of Gatineau (SPVG) confirmed on Monday that Jonathan Lévesque had been formally accused, on August 7, in connection with gestures committed during an intervention on June 9.
“On August 7, the DPCP authorized charges of having uttered threats to cause death or bodily injury as well as to have committed assault against agent Jonathan Lévesque,” said the police in a statement.
The policeman had already been suspended with pay since the start of the investigation.
“It will remain suspended until the conclusion of procedures,” added the SPVG.
This is not the first time that Mr. Lévesque has faced charges related to threats.
In 2018, it was acquitted of two charges after admitting that he had pronounced words that “generated human resources members, reasonable reasons for their security,” according to a SPVG statement from July 20, 2018.
He had to submit to an internal disciplinary process related to this event.
He had also been suspended for 13 days in 2023 following a complaint from the police commissioner for a dangerous maneuver carried out during an intervention in 2017.
