A drama narrowly avoided. In Marseille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, a 92-year-old woman came close to death after a mortar shot blew her apartment.
According to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Marseille firefighters were called this Wednesday, August 13, in order to intervene in a violent explosion in the 9th arrondissement of the city.
The emergency services first suspected the explosion of an air conditioning compressor but they finally discovered that it was a mortar shot which was at the origin of the incident: “The object landed on the balcony, it was launched or arrived accidentally,” said the firefighters.
A criminal act
Questioned by BFMTV, the nonagenarian explained that she had just finished breakfast and that she was walking towards her entrance in order to open the door to her nurse when a big “boom” was heard.
“All the furniture has exploded in the dining room, everything is broken, the walls are cracked,” testified the retiree, detailing that the entire living room was blown.
In shock, the 92 -year -old was quickly taken to the Timone hospital, which she left a few hours later. It should be relocated to relatives.
For his son, “it could have been a carnage”. “It’s a criminal act,” he also denounced.
The Marseille prosecution confirmed that it has opened an investigation for “voluntary degradation by dangerous means or incendiary substance” and “involuntary injuries which led to an ITT of less than 3 months by deliberate breach of a security or prudence obligation”.
