A mountaineer was rescued after spending two days behind a waterfall in California. The rescuers had to use a helicopter to help him.
A 46 -year -old mountaineer spent almost two days stuck behind a waterfall before being rescued and helicoptered in California, reports NBC News. The incident occurred in the Sequoia national forest, near Sierra Nevada.
The man had been reported disappeared by his family to whom he had not been able to give news in the evening during the day of his disappearance. He had tried to descend a reminder cascade at the Kern river, the local sheriff’s office said in a press release.
During a first night of research, the emergency services managed to determine its probable location using infrared technologies, continues the sheriff’s office. The next morning, a drone confirmed this position, namely a cavity behind the waterfall.
After his rescue, which required a helicopter, the rescued man said he found himself blocked there after losing his recall strings. He could not risk moving due to the “extremely strong current of the river”.
According to Captain Kevin Kemmerling, from the Sheriff’s Office, three people have already drowned in the vicinity of this waterfall in 2024. He thus calls visitors to caution, “in particular when they sail in bright waters”.
