Franco-Swiss national doubles should no longer be able to fulfill their military obligations by carrying out an initiation day in France. This is what the two competent parliamentary committees are asking for. They want to remove these “privileges linked to military obligations” in law.
After the competent committee of the National Council, the Security Policy Commission of the States Council followed a parliamentary initiative by Pascal Schmid (UDC/TG), the services of the Parliament on Tuesday. The National Commission can now draw up a change in military law.
No equivalence
The majority of the commission is of the opinion that military service in Switzerland with the recruit school and that in France, with the unique orientation day, are not equivalent. She wants the situation to be corrected. The Swiss with a single passport should not be less well treated than the Swiss with two or more passports.
Concretely, the double nationals should only be exempt from military service or the exemption tax in Switzerland only if the services they have provided abroad are equivalent or if the services they have provided abroad have been performed before their home taking in Switzerland or before their naturalization.
