According to Mark Zuckerberg, people without connected glasses will be disadvantaged in the future

Even if Meta’s Reality Labs division continues to combine losses, Mark Zuckerberg continues to be optimistic. Indeed, sales of Ray-Ban Meta glasses improve and the use of the artificial intelligence that the group offers on these glasses is increasing. Recently, Meta presented its second quarter 2025 results and, during the traditional teleconference, Mark Zuckerberg explained that, for him, connected glasses will be the ideal device to interact with AI. Equipped with cameras, these can see what the user sees, which allows AI to provide better assistance.

This also indicated that, in the future, if you do not have glasses connected to an AI (or another way to interact with the AI), you will be “In a way, cognitively disadvantaged compared to other people with whom you work or against whom you are in competition.” In other words, for Mark Zuckerberg, connected glasses would soon become an essential tool.

As a reminder, the glasses sold by Meta and Ray-Ban have no screen. However, the group is already developing augmented reality glasses called Orion and could, in the meantime, launch connected glasses equipped with a screen to display information. In any case, Mark Zuckerberg has the intimate conviction that this form factor will be a box in a few years. And this is the reason why Meta invests massively in technology. In the second quarter of 2025, the losses of the Reality Labs division were $ 4.53 billion. However, Ray-Ban Meta glasses are getting better and better. Recently, during the presentation of its financial results, Essilorluxottica revealed that sales of Ray-Ban Meta glasses tripled in one year.

Competitors arrive

Meta will not be alone on this market which may be very lucrative in the long term. And among its competitors, there will be Google. The Mountain View firm has developed a new platform called Android XR for mixed reality headsets and connected glasses. Obviously, Android XR glasses will be based on Google’s artificial intelligence. And if Meta collaborates with the House of Glasses Ray-Ban, Google, for its part, invested in the company Warby Parker, a specialist in glasses.

Apple could also, later, launch connected glasses. According to information that circulated at the end of June, the Cupertino firm could launch glasses comparable to the Ray-Ban Meta in 2027. Then, the real augmented reality glasses, with screen, could land in 2028. But the Apple problem is that, for the moment, it is late in the AI race, while AI is one of the main sales arguments for connected glasses.

  • According to Mark Zuckerberg, in the future, people who will not wear glasses connected to an AI will be disadvantaged
  • Meta markets connected glasses that allow you to interact with its Meta AI assistant and it is already preparing a model with a screen that can display information on the user’s field of vision
  • Meta will soon face Google competition, which is preparing its new Android XR platform
