Stefano Sollecito, Cochef of the clan of the Sicilians of the Montreal mafia currently accused of murder and conspiracies, will remain held throughout legal proceedings. The accused suffering from cancer had asked for his provisional freedom last month.
Judge Alexandre Boucher from the Superior Court refused the accused’s provisional freedom request on Friday morning. We cannot reveal the reasons behind this decision due to a non-publication order, a common at this stage of legal proceedings. The whole evidence in this file is also struck by a prescription.
Several arrests, including that of Mr. Sollecito, took place in mid-June as part of a large investigation launched by the revelations of a former hitman and targeting important figures of the organized Montreal crime.
Stefano Sollecito is accused of the premeditated murder of Lorenzo Lopresti, committed in October 2011. He is also accused of having plot the murders of several other individuals related to the mafia. It is considered by the police as the Cochef of the Clan of the Sicilians of the Montreal mafia.
The accused asked for his provisional freedom last July. The 57 -year -old man has been in cancer and has been moving in a wheelchair for a few years.
During the hearings last week, Mr. Sollecito struggled to move. Two women took care of pushing her wheelchair into the accused box.
Testimonies during these hearings are also subject to a non-publication order.
His file will be back before the courts next September.
