Alpon X5 is a new artificial intelligence system that is currently the subject of crowdfunding via Kickstarter. The term “edge” essentially means that data processing takes place closer to the application or the device and in a less centralized manner. It may, for example, be a compact computer system located next to an industrial device such as a CNC system. Alpon X5 can thus control certain processes while providing data to a centralized production control system or a cloud system.
Alpon X5 users should also benefit from better AI acceleration. More specifically, the processing of images and the interpretation of the content of the images are announced. For example, it may be fire detection via a surveillance camera. The Alpon X5 comes with a Deepx DX-M1 M.2 module, which is supposed to provide 25 tops of IA treatment power while consuming 3.5 watts. It is a dedicated system powered by a Raspberry Pi CM5, and the use of the corresponding software is also deemed easy.
A cellular modem is installed, which can be used with an ESIM card and is designed to support 4G mobile connections. WiFi 5 and Ethernet are supported. The other characteristics include two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port and a camera. External sensors and actuators can be connected via GPIO.
As part of the crowdfunding campaign, the Alpon X5 is offered at Super Early Bird price of $ 549. As always, users must familiarize themselves with the risks of crowdfunding campaigns, including the possibility that the product does not happen on the market
