AMD Ryzen 5,5500x3d: first benchmarks and promises for players

AMD continues to support the AM4 platform with a new processor Designed for tight but gaming budgets. THE Ryzen 5 5500X3Ddiscreet when it was launched last June, has just delivered its first results in PassMark. Without being the most powerful of X3D models, necessarily, it stands out for a massive 96 MB l3 cache, designed to offer a clear advance compared to the classic Ryzen 5,5500.

An entry -level processor, but armed for the game

The Ryzen 5 5500X3D Resumes the 6-core and 12 thread configuration from 5500 non-X3D, but is based on technology 3D V-Cache which has already proven its effectiveness with the Ryzen 7 5800x3d and 5600x3d. In return, the frequencies are revised downwards: about 600 MHz less in the base and 200 MHz in boost. Despite this limitation, the excess cache is a major asset for applications sensitive to memory latency, especially video games.

First encouraging results

According to Passmark tests, the processor reaches 3,005 single-core points et 20,498 points in multi-core. This places it slightly behind the 5500 in mono-heart performance (-1.8 %) but in advance of 6 % in multi-thread. These differences remain modest in pure productivity, but it should be remembered that this type of benchmark does not really exploit the potential of the additional cache. In practice, games should be the first beneficiaries of this architecture.

An interesting positioning against the Ryzen 5600x3d

If we trust the trends of other X3D models, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D could compete with the 5600x3D in recent titles, with performances that do not move away as much as that of a 5800x3d. This means that he could compete with certain Ryzen of the 7000 series, while remaining on the AM4 platform, still very widespread on the market.

Availability and future of the range

For the moment, the Ryzen 5,5500x3d is mainly distributed in Latin America, but it is not excluded that AMD expands its marketing to other markets in the coming months, as has already happened in the past. In addition to the 5600x3D, this new model could prolong the life of the AM4 platform and offer an economical solution to players wishing to update their machine without switching to AM5.

In short, the Ryzen 5,5500x3d does not shine with its synthetic benchmarks, but its playful potential is very real. With a contained price and a generous cache, it could establish itself as the best entry -level gaming choice of the Zen 3 generation.
