A general strike to demand the release of the hostages has not led to major disruptions in Israel

Thousands of Israelis went down to the street on Sunday to claim their government a cease-fire agreement in Gaza which would guarantee the release of hostages, requests rejected by Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu.

Blocking roads in several cities in the country, fire tires and a few scuffles with the police deployed in force for this mobilization at the call of the families of the hostages selected in Gaza for almost two years.

With the exception of occasional operations in various places in the country, activity has nevertheless remained relatively normal in Tel Aviv as in Jerusalem, noted the France-Presse agency.

Small events and punctual gatherings took place in the morning in several points of the country, as on the highway connecting Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, or even on the outskirts of Jerusalem, where the police have briefly used a water cannon to clear a handful of demonstrators installed in a tunnel.

“The terrible chaos in Gaza could extend indefinitely, as is human losses. We have to stop this endless and terrifying fall in the abyss. It must stop “pleaded Nira Sharabi, wife of Yossa Sharabi, whose body is still in the hands of Hamas in Gaza. She participated in a rally in Beeri, a Kibbutz near the Gaza border which was one of the hardest communities affected during the attack on October 7.

The highlight of protests will be at the end of the afternoon in Tel Aviv, where the demonstrators, brandishing portraits of captives, Israeli flags and yellow banners, the symbol color of the hostages, began to converge towards the Place des Otages.
