The Canadian Federation of the Independent Company (FCEI) maintains that nearly two out of three SMEs could permanently abandon Canada post if the strike resumes after the vote.

The FCEI estimates that the 2024 strike cost SMEs between $ 75 and $ 100 million per day. Most companies, 71 %, reacted to disturbances by encouraging their customers to use communications and digital payments.

In addition, almost half, 45 %, turned to private messaging services, while 27 % delayed the sending of certain letters or packages. Following this conflict, 13 % of SMEs definitively stopped using Canada Posts during the 2024 strike.

In its latest annual report, Posts Canada indicates that only 24 % of package delivery market shares compared to 62 % in 2019. Recent FCEI data show that 73 % of SMEs mainly use private companies for package delivery.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Company (FCEI) believes that the current Canada Post Business model needs to be reformed in depth. It is high time for the federal government to allow Canada to implement the necessary changes so that it is profitable and relevant. SME owners must be able to count on long-term reliability and affordable prices for the postal services they use concluded.
