They are all called “magic eraser”, even if this name comes at the origin of the M. Net brand. Other brands, such as Javex, sold in dollarama, use similar terms, such as “erase-tache”, to designate comparable products. However, if the article seems similar, the price is not: the popular version costs much more.

For those who are not familiar with this product, it is a cleansing sponge that makes miracles without the need to add a household product. It works thanks to a melamine foam, a material with the abrasive microscopic structure. Once wet, it acts like a micro-chipboard, capable of disloding stubborn spots on hard surfaces. Like an eraser, it gradually wears out each use.
This type of cleaning product is particularly appreciated for its ability to quickly disappear tenacious spots. Easy to use and efficient on several hard surfaces, it has become a must for many.
Nevertheless, despite its popularity, the popular sponge of Mr. Net is not given: it is necessary to pay between $ 1.50 and $ 2.00 for a single unit at the Dollar store, which does not last very long. This is why ” dupes »Pique our curiosity. Is it worth paying more for a brand product, or is it the same with a version sold at the $ 1 store?
I put them on the test.
The opinions expressed are those of the author or the author and do not necessarily reflect the position of Narcity Media on the subject.
To put these famous white sponges to the test and see which ones have the best value for money, I chose to clean a pair of white shoes that needed them. A sponge of each brand has been used on a different shoe, so that you can compare the results fairly.
To start, here are the four products I used, as well as the pair of shoes in its initial state.
In store, I noticed that there are two types of magical erasers, from each of the brands: the classic version and a version identified as “extra durable and resistant”. So, will we see a real difference between these two options? And how do they compare to the two products of a different brand? This is what we are going to test.
We start by comparing classic sponges before testing the more durable versions. At first glance, the two products are similar: these are white, rectangular sponges, with fairly similar dimensions. One is a little wider and short, the other thinner and long, a few millimeters. It is not very visible in the photo, but that of M.NET is also slightly textured.
On the price side, the difference is striking: the javex brand erases are sold in a package of four for only $ 1.25, while a single magic erase of the M.NET brand costs $ 1.50. Is this price difference really worth it?
On the efficiency side, the JAVEX sponge is firmer in hand, which makes it a little less flexible for cleaning. Conversely, that of M.NET is more flexible and better marries the surfaces, especially in the corners. On the other hand, after only a few friction, M.NET’s sponge began to crumble. It was therefore more fragile and less suitable for more intense or repeated cleaning.
Despite these differences, the result obtained with the two sponges is quite satisfactory and comparable.
Now let’s move on to so -called “more sustainable” versions. On the price side, the difference remains marked: the pack of two Javex covers cost $ 1.75, while a single M.NET magical erase is sold $ 2.00. Visually, the two products are very similar in this version, with a wavy shape and a surface texture.
For cleaning, there is once again the same difference: the Javex sponge is firmer, while that of M.NET is more flexible. On the other hand, in this version, the M.NET sponge has literally disintegrated into a thousand pieces. I persevered to finish cleaning, but I had to redo another one afterwards, because small pieces had dispersed everywhere. On the side of Javex, the sponge also slightly crumbling, but nothing comparable.
The white color has come back well, and the dirt was effectively eliminated. By comparing the two shoes side by side, I would say that the result is more satisfactory on the Javex side, especially for the base of the sole which is on the right. The M.NET sponge did not fully do the work as hoped for on the basis of the sole of the left shoe.
The result is almost entirely satisfactory and similar for both brands. For deep cleaning, a product would also be able to also reach seams and cracks. That said, the general appearance is much cleaner, without any trace of brownish dirt.
Does one of the two products are more worth it?
For my part, I preferred that of the Javex brand for the washing of my shoes, considering that it was quite firm and was not completely crumbed. Also considering the money economy by buying four sponges from the Javex brand for less than a single magic eraser from M.NET, it would once again be my first choice. Is this the one that is most effective for cleaning several types of stains? Unfortunately, I cannot say.
If you do some research on social networks, you will see that several people share that you can buy online a very large quantity of these multifunction melamine sponges. For example, a batch of 100 sponges can cost only $ 28.99. According to these users, the result is the same as with known brands, except that it is much cheaper. That said, you really have to like this product to buy it as large as large.
For my part, I am not a very large follower, especially because of their abrasive effect and the number of surfaces to avoid. I prefer to use standard sponges or tea towels, and be able to choose the type and quantity of cleaning product that I use. When it comes to cleaning, everyone has their preferences and tips.
