The Friborgers have never won as many university degrees as last year. Thus, a total of 1226 university titles were issued to students domiciled in the canton of Friborg.
(Keystone-ATS) The total is up 26 titles (+2.2%) compared to 2023, the statistical and data (SSD) service of the State of Friborg said on Thursday. Statistics include bachelors, masters and doctorates issued by all university high schools (EHU) in Switzerland to students domiciled in the canton of Friborg before the start of their studies.
At the national level, this represents 3.2% of the 38,474 titles delivered to Switzerland. In the long term, there is regular growth in HEU titles awarded to Friborg students. In 2024, the Bachelors were in the majority with 603 titles (49.2%), followed by 554 Masters (45.2%) and 69 doctorates (5.6%), the press release said.
Bologna reform
The structure of diplomas has changed sharply with Bologna’s reform: more than 300 licenses or diplomas were still issued each year in the early 2000s, but these titles gradually disappeared in favor of Bachelor and Masters. The number of doctorates remained stable over 25 years, with an annual average of 63.
The total titles increased significantly between 2004 and 2015 (from 475 to more than 1100), before stabilizing around 1200 since 2020. Beyond, out of the 1226 titles delivered last year to students domiciled in the canton of Friborg, 51.3 %-or 629 titles-were by the University of Friborg.
Lausanne and Bern
The universities of Lausanne and Bern allocated 13%and 11.6%respectively, followed by the Federal Polytechnic Schools of Lausanne (6%) and Zurich (4.2%). The other HEUs bring together the remaining 13.9%.
After a peak at 62.1% in 2004, the share of the University of Friborg fell, then stabilized since 2015 below the 55%. In 2024, the University of Friborg gave a total of 2,289 titles, including 72.5% to people domiciled outside the canton.
