More “international”
The United States saves Liechtenstein, opposite the treatment reserved for Switzerland. Customs duties, announced on the night of Thursday to Friday, amount to 15 % on goods from Liechtenstein, a rate significantly lower than 37 % initially envisaged.

Switzerland and Liechtenstein wanted the same regime
Due to its membership of a common economic space with Switzerland, Liechtenstein has committed from the start in favor of a joint solution. The principality thus participated in negotiations for a trilateral agreement with the United States.
However, no agreement could be concluded with Washington. The United States ultimately decided to apply distinct customs duties for the two countries, which notably share the same currency.
Close coordination with Switzerland
“The different customs duties now communicated for Liechtenstein and Switzerland place us in a new situation,” said Government Vice-Chief Sabine Monauni. She said that the repercussions will be analyzed with economic circles, in close coordination with Switzerland.
A working group responsible for following the American customs duties had been set up in April. He met Friday morning, August 1, to take stock of the situation.
Main extra-European economic partner
The United States is the main extra-European economic partner of Liechtenstein. Their links have intensified over the decades.
Liechtenstein direct investments in the United States reach 1.4 billion francs. This represents 3.5 times American investments in the Principality.
Liechtenstein companies employ around 7,000 people in more than 40 US states.
The Liechtenstein government has reaffirmed its attachment to close economic relations with Washington. He is committed to communicating in good time on the next developments.
