To those who still doubted the impact of the wine crisis in Gironde, here is a new ricochet striking the window of one of the most important economic sectors in the department. The organizers have just announced the cancellation of the next edition of Bordeaux celebrates wine, an event which had still welcomed tens of thousands of visitors last June on the platforms of the Port de la Lune and which, since 2006, had only been canceled once, during the Covid pandemic in 2020. “In anticipation of the exceptional event which will bring together in 2027 Bordeaux and the departure of the Tall Ships and Budget constraints affecting the wine sector, the Interprofessional Council for Bordeaux wine (CIVB) has decided not to devote a budget to Bordeaux to celebrate the wine 2026 ”, explain the organizers.
The decision was ratified by the CIVB office on July 26, which devotes around 600,000 euros to this event launched in 1998, organized each year since 2021. For the interprofession, this choice aims to go back to better again while the 2027 edition promises to be “huge”, assures one of its representatives: it will be coupled at the start of the Tall Ships Race, an international race World, expected in the Gironde capital on July 7. “For five days […]the port of the moon will vibrate to the rhythm of cultural, nautical and festive animations around an impressive fleet of large historic sailboats from around the world, “said the organization in a press release.
A terrible crisis
Wouldn’t attendance have been considered sufficient last June? “It has nothing to do with that,” insists Brigitte Bloch, elected Bordeaux and metropolitan, at the head of the tourist office and the Bordeaux Métropole congress. “We had excellent feedback, both visitors and professionals present, with very positive satisfaction rates. »It remains to be seen whether another event will be organized on the Bordeaux quays to replace Bordeaux celebrating wine next summer. “Perhaps events, but it will not be around wine,” replied Brigitte Bloch. We cannot decently organize something without the sector. »»
Bordeaux Fête Le Vin has benefited from more than 350,000 euros in subsidies from local authorities during its last edition (City of Bordeaux, Bordeaux Métropole and Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine). In 2025, around 500 winegrowers or merchants representing the Bordeaux wine sector as a whole welcomed visitors from nearby or around the world for four days. A sector that faces a terrible crisis. In the past two years, its vineyard has been amputated by 18 % of its surface thanks to a award -winning uprooting plan, a decrease in national and global consumption.
