In one of the restaurants tested, they ordered lasagna, soda and water. The French customer received a can of coca at € 6.50, accompanied by a free water carafe. The false American tourist had the choice between a “medium” or “wide” coca. He chose the “Medium” size, but he was brought to a glass billed at € 9.50. He also received a bottle of water at 6 euros, while tap water was not offered. In total, his note was € 9.50 more expensive than that of the French customer, for the same order.

But the differences do not stop there … In this same establishment, the server offered them garlic bread, without specifying that it was an additional supplement, billed later 6 euros.
In another restaurant, located near the Eiffel Tower, the bill for the American false tourist was also significantly higher. The server insisted on having a tip, on the pretext that “The service was not included “which is false: in France, the service, the water and the cutlery are included in the price, as the French hotel federation recalls.
In this establishment, the false tourist thus left an almost compulsory tip of 4 euros, in addition to another bottle of water billed 6 euros, while the French customer could simply choose between a free bottle or carafe. In the end, in these two restaurants, the bill of the American tourist increased by around 50 % compared to that of the French customer.
