You can soon adjust the brightness of HDR photos and videos to your smartphone with this future Android 16 feature.
You have already been in this case: by consulting photos in your gallery or even on Instagram, some of them are much brighter than the others on your screen.
These photos, taken in HDR or Ultra HDR, come with their own metadata and are very different from classic SDR photos. The experience is not the most pleasant nights even when they appear in full brightness to dazzle you.
Fortunately, Android 16 will help your eyes with a new feature to adapt the brightness of HDR content.

The brightness of HDR photos finally controlled on Android
This new option, spotted by Android Authoritywas added to the Canal Canary of Android 16. Accessible in the display settings, it allows you to adjust the overall brightness of HDR content, whether photos or videos.
This will allow you to mix the too big differences in brightness between the SDR and HDR content. Keep in mind that the interest of HDR lies, among other things, in its most dynamic range, it is therefore normal for the photos and videos to be brighter.
You can test this new feature by running the Canary version of Android, which incorporates experimental and unstable updates while waiting for their overall deployment.
