Are you going on vacation soon? These countries are considered to be the most safe, 11 top 15 destinations are in Europe

The holidays are starting for many during this time of year. On this occasion, we consulted the ranking of the safest countries where traveling in 2025, established by American insurance Berkshire Hathaway. A priority criterion for many travelers.

Security remains an essential criterion for many tourists. Each year, since 2018, a classification identifies the safest countries in the world according to travelers. For 2025, Iceland arrived in first position, winning eight places compared to the previous year. It is ahead of Australia and Canada, which complete the podium.

Switzerland, New Zealand and Germany are also among the most reliable destinations. Conversely, some countries record notable declines: the United Kingdom fell from 6th to 13th place, and the Netherlands from 5th to 14th.

A classification based on the experience of travelers

The evaluation is mainly based on the testimonies of American travelers who visited these countries in the past five years. Only people who have really traveled in a destination can note its safety. To this are added indicators recognized as the Global Peace Index (pacifism index), the data of Numboo (quality of life), as well as the safety scores of the big cities established by Global Geosure (Security).

Each country is awarded a weighted score, without any indicator taking over the others. This approach aims to offer a balanced evaluation of security.

If the top of the ranking remains dominated by destinations known for their stability, such as Northern Europe, Australia or Canada, notable changes are observed each year. The example of Brazil illustrates these fluctuations well: 15th in 2024 after a spectacular rise, it descended in 36th place in 2025.

Here are the top 15 surest countries to travel in 2025:

1. Iceland

2. Australia

3. Canada

4. Ireland

5. Suisse

6. New Zealand

7. Germany

8. Norway

9. Japan

10. Denmark

11. Portugal

12. Spain

13. United Kingdom

14.

15. Sweden

Limits to keep in mind

The classification does not take into account exceptional events such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Nor does it reflect local disparities within the same country. The authors of the classification recall the importance of completing this data with its own research.
