A shooting broke out on Wednesday morning in the American military base in Fort Stewart, Georgia, injuring five soldiers. According to a press release published on the official Facebook page of the base, all the affected soldiers were neat on the spot before being transferred to a hospital. “There is no active threat to the community,” says the base.
The alert was given around 11 a.m. for shots reported in a base complex. The site was placed in confinement, before the alleged perpetrator was arrested shortly after 11:30 am. The lifting of containment of the main area of the base intervened afternoon, but the sector where the shots took place was still completed.
More than 10,000 people installed in the base
According to AFP, Fort Stewart had initially called upon people present to “confine themselves immediately, stay inside and close all doors and windows”. Emergency medical teams have been dispatched to take care of the injured. The base, located about 65 kilometers southwest of Savannah and housing the 3rd infantry division, has more than 10,000 residents, including soldiers, their families and civilian employees.

According to CNN, Savannah FBI agents are also mobilized and work with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Army to determine the exact circumstances of the attack. On X, the governor of Georgia Brian Kemp said he was “saddened by the tragedy that occurred today in Fort Stewart”, calling on the inhabitants of the State to have “a thought for the victims, their families and all those who serve”.
