From July 11 to 13, the Quadball World Cup in Tubize took place, the sport is inspired by the quidditch of Harry Potter. Faced with Germany, Belgium won 170-90 and won the title of world champion!
Since 2012, Quidditch (now the quadball since) has been offering a World Cup. And for this sixth edition, the competition was organized in Tubize, Belgium. So far, the United States had won four world champions titles out of five, but Belgium has just brought the Cup in Europe thanks to its victory against Germany on July 13, 2025.
Our Belgian team, the Belgian Griffins, knew how to beat Germany, however holding the title of European champion, a competition that our Belgians wish to win on March 15 and 16, 2026 in Catalonia.
Quadball is inspired by Quidditch, this team sport inspired by the Harry Potter universe. But do not see a wacky game, however, this sport is a mixture of rugby, handball and dodgeball. It is played out in mixed teams of 7 players, each has a very specific role: the purser, the drummer, the goalkeeper or the attracture. Each player holds a broom between his legs for the duration of the match. The points are scored by launching a bullet (the Souafle) in one of the three cups of the opponent, while avoiding the cognards launched by the drummers. As in the Harry Potter saga, the game ends when one of the players catches the “golden live” (except that here, it is a referee dressed in yellow).
What do we like in quadball? Its diversity, its gender equality, fair play and the inclusiveness that this sport defends in addition to making it a more than fun activity. Want to register and start this sport? Register for Levianthans or Uliège Sports before the start of the school year!
