Belgium is preparing to experience an episode of intense heat earlier this week. From Tuesday, the Royal Meteorological Institute (MRI) places the whole country on orange alert, with the exception of the coastal area. Temperatures should reach 35 ° C Tuesday and climb up to 37 ° C Wednesday in several regions of the center and the East.
As of Monday, the Maxima will already exceed 30 ° C at 32 ° C in the majority of the provinces. The peak of this heat wave is expected between Tuesday and Wednesday, although an uncertainty persists for the west of the country, where an influx of air cooler by the northwest could moderate temperatures.
MRI specifies that this alert could be adapted according to the evolution of the data. This is a precautionary measure linked to the intensification of a heat wave that currently affects all of southern Europe.
In France, 84 departments are also placed on orange alert, while Météo-France talks about an “intense scorching episode”. The peak is expected around Tuesday or Wednesday, with points at 39 ° C or even 40 ° C in certain regions.
Italy has activated the red alert (level 3) in 17 cities, including Milan and Turin. In Portugal, two thirds of the country are on orange alert this Sunday, with 42 ° C planned in Lisbon. In Spain, 40 ° C has already been exceeded on Saturday in cities like Seville.
This scorching sequence also raises increased risks of fires and health vulnerability, especially for the elderly and weakened populations.
