The UN assured that they wanted to try as many people as possible in the Gaza Strip, after the announcement by Israel of the opening of secure land roads for humanitarian convoys in the besieged and hungry Palestinian territory.
The Israeli Prime Minister asked the United Nations this Sunday, July 27, July 27, to stop blaming his government for the humanitarian situation in Gaza after the army announced that it was going to facilitate the passage of humanitarian aid to Palestinian territory.
“There are secure corridors. They have always existed, but today it is official. There will be no more excuses,” said Benjamin Netanyahu during a visit to an air base.
The United Nations praised the advertisements of the army while remaining reserved for their impact and methods of application in a territory ravaged by more than 21 months of war.
“Humanitarian breaks”
The UN assured Sunday that wanted to try to reach as many people as possible in the Gaza Strip, after the announcement by Israel of the opening of secure land roads for humanitarian convoys in the Palestinian Enclave besieged and hungry.
The World Food Program (PAM) said it has enough food, already on site or on the way to the region, in order to feed the 2.1 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip for almost three months.
The head of UN humanitarian operations, Tom Fletcher, praised the announcement of these “humanitarian breaks”. “In contact with our teams on the field who will do their best to reach as many hungry people as we can,” he wrote on X.
PAM has explained that breaks and corridors should help distribute emergency food in a secure manner. “Food aid is the only real means for most of the residents of Gaza to eat,” he said in a statement.
Catastrophic humanitarian situation
He specifies that a third of the population has not eaten for several days, and that 470,000 people in Gaza “undergo conditions similar to a famine” which would lead to their death.
According to the WFP, it takes 62,000 tonnes of food each month to provide the needs of the entire Gazan population.
The agency also notes that, in addition to the “break” announced on Sunday, Israel is committed to letting more trucks in Gaza enter with faster customs clearance procedures, and assured that there would be no “army force or shooting near the convoys”.
“Together, we hope that these measures will increase emergency food aid to reach hungry people without new delays,” said WFP.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, said that Israel, as a power occupying Gaza, was obliged to ensure that a sufficient quantity of food is provided to the population. “Children die of hunger before our eyes. Gaza is a dystopian landscape marked by deadly attacks and total destruction,” he said in a statement.
Help distributions that turn to the massacre
He criticized the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a private organization supported by the United States and Israel, which began to distribute food in late May when the efforts organized by the UN were blocked.
According to Volker Türk, “chaotic and militarized GHF” places of GHF “completely fail to provide humanitarian aid on the scale and in the necessary proportions”.
According to its services, Israeli forces have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians who tried to recover food since the GHF launched its operations, almost three -quarters near the GHF sites.
“The famine crisis is worsening,” alerted the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs Coordination (OCHA) on Friday, stressing that hunger and malnutrition increased the risk of disease and that the consequences could quickly “become fatal”.
The OCHA had announced that the UN teams were in place to intensify deliveries in the Palestinian territory “as soon as they are allowed to do so”.
