The elected officials of France neighbor dispute the exclusion of border students from Geneva
The Metropolitan Pole of French Genevans requests the suspension of the measure, taken without consultation.
Students domiciled in France will no longer be welcomed in Geneva establishments at the start of the next school year.

“The Geneva government has therefore decided to refer to the immediate responsibility of the French authorities the charges of public equipment and recruitment of teachers of schoolchildren, college students and high school students hitherto educated in the canton of Geneva.” For elected officials from neighboring France, “this decision accentuates the pressure on the teaching system already under strong tensions in French Genevans, in particular due to the strong attractiveness of the Canton of Geneva and the cost of living.”
New exchanges in September
“A local decision cannot unbalance the position of one or partners within Grand Geneva, our cross -border living area. This situation is not acceptable. We were able to assert our position to the Geneva State Councilors present, especially on June 26, on the sidelines of our trip to Bern, ”comments Christian Dupessey.
According to the elected official, supported exchanges took place with representatives of the State, at the level of the regional prefecture, the departments of Ain and Haute-Savoie or the French Embassy in Bern. New exchanges are scheduled for September.
