Christian Mbilli’s next opponent is now known.
Mbilli, who recently won the super-world’s worker title of the World Boxing Council (WBC), will be measured at Lester Martinez Guatemalan, on September 13, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Mbilli (29-0, 24 K.-O.) and Martinez (19-0, 16 K.-O.) will pay the penultimate fight of the evening, during a gala which will end with a highly anticipated duel between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
“I am flattered that we thought of me for the Canelo event against Crawford. I intend to take the opportunity to show that I am the legitimate aspirant to the winner of their fight, insisted Mbilli. I plan to do it by remaining faithful to my style, to myself and by offering a spectacular fight. ”
The adopted Quebecer will go back to the arena less than three months after his conquest of the interim WBC title. At his last fight on June 27, he struggled the Polish Maciej Sulecki from the first round.
Mbilli will therefore defend his title for the first time, against Martinez.
“Several consider Lester Martinez as the most dangerous hope of boxing to climb the global ladder at the moment. But Christian does not say no to anyone. Neither Canelo nor Martinez, nobody, “said Mbilli coach Marc Ramsay.
Martinez is one of the best classified aspirants in the 168 pounds. He is currently third in the ranking of the World Boxing Association (WBA), seventh at WBC and 15th at the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
“It has been several years since we are talking about sending messages to Canelo, but the difference is that here we will have the opportunity to convey to him by hand, in Las Vegas, and in front of millions of viewers on Netflix. When it is done, Christian Mbilli will be inevitable, because the whole world will want to see him in the biggest fights, “commented the president of Eye of the Tiger Management, Camille Estephan.
