A future “Rima Hassan” promotion? This is what could happen to the law faculty of the Free University of Brussels (ULB), notes Marianne. Because each year, as in many French establishments, students can choose what name to give to their promotion. And this time, among the four proposed by suffrage is that of the European deputy for rebellious France, Rima Hassan.
The other names are those of the tax lawyer – recently deceased – Typhanie Afschrift; of the lawyer Michèle Grégoire and Gisèle Pelicot. First surprise, the ballot was postponed to the start of the academic school year. In question: supposed “Technical problems” met during the first vote, indicates LIBER Belgium.

But the postponement of the ballot could have another reason: the letter addressed to the university authorities by nearly 1,300 people, including 400 students and former graduates. In their eyes, Rima Hassan’s personality cannot be involved in ULB and its democratic and humanist values. “It seems to us that to associate the interested party with a generation of jurists would hit the values which are ours and which, to our esteem, are those of our university”they wrote.
According to the signatories, Rima Hassan’s career includes “Shadows”because it does notably “The subject of four complaints for apology for terrorism, and complaints for death threats against the ex-spokesperson of the French government Prisca Thevenot and its children, as well as against MEP François-Xavier Bellamy”. Slicer, the University plans to organize a debate with students around the issues linked to the choice of such sponsorship.
