Borussia Dortmund coach Nico Kovac has revealed what he and Arsene Wenger discussed ahead of his side’s clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Dortmund are under pressure in their second Group F game after drawing the first fixture 0-0 with Fluminense while Sundowns beat Ulsan HD 1-0.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash, Kovac bemoaned the weather conditions, which could be an advantage for Miguel Cardoso’s team.
“I spoke to Arsene Wenger yesterday, he also said the tempo [at the CWC] is not high,” Kovac stated in his pre-match press conference.
“It’s not possible in these weather conditions, high temperatures. We wish we could play a higher tempo but it’s already hot for the spectators in the stands.
“We talk about temperatures of 32 degrees in the shade, so on the pitch it’s probably even 3-5 degrees more. You have to run, the body heats up, it’s not an excuse, it’s an explanation.
“It hurts all teams, but especially the European teams. It’s hard and I think the teams from the south are more used to it, but nevertheless we want to win this game no matter the style.”
