People who wish can now file a thesis for the States General of the St. Lawrence Seal scheduled for next fall.
This initiative aims to take the pulse and paint a portrait of the entire situation surrounding the St. Lawrence seal, also called Loup-Marin.
The association of intra-Quebec seal hunters (Small-minded), l’agence Mamu Innu kaikussesht de la cte-nord (What) and the Exploramer scientific museum oversees these general states.
The organizations involved wish to explore three major challenges with this call: the regulations surrounding this hunt, science as well as the valuation of the resource.
The Quebec Office of the French language describes the name Memory as a full written presentation of a question or the study of a problem which demonstrates that its author masters a field of knowledge and makes a contribution to it.
Fur transformers, textiles, meat, fat; people in the culinary, pharmacological or medical research world; Hunters, fishermen and scientists are therefore invited to participate in this call for memory.
Everyone is welcome. What we want with the call of memory is to collect as much information as possible.
The deadline to submit a brief, in French or in English, is August 15. Will then follow public consultations later in August.
There will be an analysis of everything that we have received as comments and memories and then they will issue recommendations and it is at the major project in November in Matane that we will debate these recommendations, which may be changed or improved
explains Ms. Gauthier.
Elected officials, scientists, seal hunters have already raised their hands to confirm their participation and their presence in the Estates General, says Sandra Gauthier.
The Estates General will take place in Matane from November 11 to 14.
