AFPA villager in the Eastern province of Svay Nothing died Thursday, tests having confirmed that he had taken out the H5N1 avian flu virus, the Cambodian Ministry of Health said in a statement.
“The victim touched sick and dead chickens, two days before falling ill,” he said, adding that the man had “fever, cough and breathing difficulties” before dying in the hospital.
Last month, Cambodia had recorded its fourth death of avian flu this year with the death of an 11 -year -old boy.
The H5N1 virus is generally transmitted to humans after contact with infected birds or in high -risk environments, such as farms or live animals. However, the probability of human transmission remains rare.
In total, 43 people died of avian influenza in Cambodia between 2003 and 2024, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
There was no case between 2014 and 2022, then the virus was reappeared, killing four people in the kingdom in 2023 and two last year.
