The task of the Federal Councilor in charge of Foreign Affairs in Switzerland is not simple. With the multiple conflicts that have declared themselves in recent years, Ignazio Cassis has regularly called to take a stand. But since the beginning of the year, and the degradation of living conditions in the Gaza Strip from March, its restraint has been perceived as a deposit in Israeli policy accused of repeated humanitarian violations.
This is how several citizen actions have been launched so that Switzerland is firmer with the actions of the Hebrew state, which are qualified by certain “genocide” organizations towards the Palestinian people. In this context, employees of the DFAE wrote a message asking for a clearer position on their own, condemning the repeated abuses of the Israeli army towards the civilian population.
On June 2, the daily “Blick” revealed that 250 employees in the Federal Foreign Affairs Department (DFAE) had sent him a letter in this direction. Two weeks later, the signatories had been contacted to establish that they had signed this document well.
According to a document relayed this Monday by “Blick”, on June 25, Ignazio Cassis, upset, responded to these people: “The transmission of this letter to the media in order to put pressure on the Federal Council is not part of our culture of dialogue. It can also constitute a violation of the duty of loyalty enshrined in the law of federal personnel, because it can affect the confidence of the public in the State, of which you are the servants and which you represent ”.
