Friborg transforms his approach to early childhood
The town reveals an ambitious plan based on 500 families. The initiative provides for a single foundation to manage crèches and daycare centers.
The city of Friborg has presented a new strategy for early childhood and announced the creation of a foundation which will bring together preschool reception structures, according to a press release published Thursday. This double initiative aims to improve services for children aged 0 to 8 and their families while optimizing the management of nurseries and daycares.
The strategy “a strong commitment to young children and families” follows “to grow in town of Friborg”, which is aimed at young people up to 25 years old. To develop this new document, the municipality followed the recommendations of the National Primokiz program and conducted a consultation with families. More than 500 testimonies were collected last year to identify possible needs and improvements.
Twenty concrete actions
Based on these returns and exchanges with professionals in the field, 20 actions were defined for the period 2025-2031. They aim to strengthen accessibility, information, coordination and quality of services. Among the planned measures are the implementation of adapted communication means to advise parents, support for parents-child meeting spaces and the integration of children’s needs in public space. The city also plans to extend cultural and sports activities, with in particular the opening of Memo on Saturday afternoon and the organization of minimoves in new districts.
A foundation for more efficiency
In parallel, the management of early childhood reception structures will be deeply revised. As indicated by the press release, crèches, day families, daycares, nursery schools and awakening workshops will be gathered in a private law foundation. This reorganization responds to proposal number 21 of the General Council and follows in -depth analyzes and the consultation of crèches active in the municipal territory.
A review of the municipal regulations will be submitted next year to Parliament. The objectives of this new governance are multiple: to provide a global vision of the system, improve coordination between actors and actresses, simplify subsidy and gain administrative efficiency. The various structures will be integrated into the future foundation or linked by collaboration agreements. This unified organization should improve the readability of the offer for families and guarantee equitable access thanks to a waiting list and centralized pricing.
