Reference in many areas of tech industry, Sony could stop the marketing of its smartphones on the European continent … and much more.
We no longer present Sony. The brand is placed as a reference in many areas. However, the smartphones of the Japanese firm would be in poor position: the Sony Xperia, however essential a few years ago, could retire.
Despite the launch with great fanfare of the Xperia 1 VII earlier in the year, the alarmist signs are constantly raining against the range of Sony smartphones.
The end of an era
Just € 483 for the Shark vacuum cleaner robot
With the Fandroid25Shark code, the Shark Powerdetect Nevertouch Pro falls only € 483.99. This robot vacuum cleaner-washer frees from cleaning with its autonomous base which empty, cleanses and dry.
Even if the brand has never officially communicated regarding a stopping its activities on the world market, Sony could withdraw from the smartphone race. Worrying signs leave little doubt about the situation of the Sony Xperia in Europe … but also in the rest of the world.
With a complete stop in Finland, confirmed by the brand at the local media Finnish mobileit is the first European country where the withdrawal is effective. In addition, almost all smartphones are out of stock, or even unavailable on official or online sales in European countries (this is particularly the case for French or German markets).
From a global point of view, the table continues to darken. Smartphones are no longer referenced on the manufacturer’s official website in the United States. The Xperia 1 VII (last flagship of the range) never pointed out.
Finally, in Japan, this smartphone experienced a local temporary withdrawal following many problems identified. On its own soil, the brand is no longer even in the top 5 sales of smartphones. The firm was quickly distant by the growing popularity of Google’s pixel, or the domination of Apple’s iPhone.
A strategy too offbeat?
Walkman, Alpha… The company takes advantage of its audio and video catalog to embellish its devices. The maintenance of the jack, or the micro SD slot (abandoned elsewhere for a long time) would make the Sony Xperia appear as a UFO in the category. But at what price? To tell the truth, quite salty: with a price of 1499 euros when it was released on such a saturated market, the Xperia 1 VII did not last long in front of an iPhone 16 Pro Max or a Galaxy 25 Ultra, both barely cheaper.
Difficult to know in what real state are Sony smartphones. If rumors have frequently circulated about a possible decline over the years, it would seem that this time, the ferocity of Chinese and American competitors have been right in the brand’s mobile division. The Sony Xperia could definitively join the Industry cemetery, thus accompanying the equally emblematic Blackberry.
