Defects noted for 28% of electrical devices

Keystone-SDA

Twenty-eight percent of the electrical equipment controlled in 2024 by the federal inspection of strong current installations (ESTE) presented defects. The ESTE has prohibited the sale of 65 aircraft, out of a total of 1026 examined.

(Keystone-ATS) A total of 291 products had formal or technical defects, or 28% of all controlled electrical equipment; 213 of these products presented faults concerning security which could cause the risk of electric discharges, burns, smoke or fire release, writes on Tuesday in its annual assessment.

In such cases or in the absence of compliance evidence, the ESTE may pronounce a prohibition of sale. This was the case for 65 aircraft in 2024.

In collaboration with the ESTE, 25 distributors withdrew from the market last year from defective products: household appliances (mixers and steam ironing stations), USB chargers, “PowerBanks” (lithium batteries), multi -power blocks, solar modules and lamps.

Always problem sheets

Once again, the federal inspection has removed from the circulation of electrical products with unauthorized foreign sheets. The latter cannot be sold in Switzerland.

The summer mentions in particular the German protection contact sheets (Schuko). These sheets can overheat in use and cause fire. Consumers should therefore refuse them directly at the point of sale, according to the indications of the EST.

The latter also recommends caution in the event of purchase on non -European online platforms at advantageous prices. Often, the network sheet or voltage does not correspond.
