OTTAWA – Defenders of people with diabetes want the federal government to restructure which they consider a defaulting medication regime.
Glenn Thibeault, Director General of Government Affairs of Diabetes Canada, said that the new government has the opportunity to make improvements.
The previous government, under the supervision of Justin Trudeau, had planned a budget of $ 1.5 billion over five years for the first phase of the medication insurance plan, which covers the cost of certain drug drugs and contraceptives for patients.
The Trudeau government has signed agreements with British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba and Yukon, which represent more than 60 % of the reserved funds.
The current government of Mark Carney does not undertake to sign the nine remaining financing agreements, saying that it works with the provinces and the territories to support them.
Mr. Thibeault indicates that Diabetes Canada wishes to see more covered drugs and future agreements targeting the coverage of people who have no private insurance.
