Switzerland and the United States have failed to agree on a declaration of intention shortly before the expiration of the period to agree on the issue of customs duties. The president of the Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter announced on Thursday evening.
(Keystone-ATS) The president indicated on messaging X having conversed with President Trump shortly before the expiration of the period granted for customs duties.
The American president once again said that for him the trade deficit is the most important, explains Karin Keller-Sutter. It was not possible to agree on the declaration of intention which had been negotiated between the two states before.
The question of the concrete effects of the failure of conversations on American customs duties on Swiss products remains open for the moment. In recent weeks, Switzerland had endeavored to obtain an exception about the measures provided by the United States.
In the spring, President Trump announced 31% taxes on Swiss goods from goods to the United States. He had suspended his decision thereafter and decided on a basic tax of 10%. For the European Union, President Trump accepted an agreement on 15%tax on Sunday.
