President, Donald Trump, accuses Canada of “cheating” by “taking advantage” from certain measures of the Canada-US-Mexico (Aceum) agreement.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Mr. Trump returned to the reasons which pushed him to end the commercial negotiations that have been started with Prime Minister Mark Carney in recent months surrounding the customs tariffs, in particular.
He indicated that the discussions would remain at neutral “until they [le Canada] remove certain taxes ”.
“Canada is very unpleasant,” he said. It loads almost 400% for our farmers on certain products. Canada is a country with which it is very difficult to negotiate. ”
The American president also mentioned that he considered that his northern neighbors “tricled” in the trade agreement which links the two countries.
“The aceum is not good if they cheat,” he said. There are things that happen that we don’t like and things they get advantage. ”
Mr. Trump did not give details on the specific shortcomings he reproached Canada on this point.
He also did not miss his chance to once again refer to the annexation of the country.
“I hope, we will be correct with Canada,” he said. I like Canada. Canada should be 51e State because Canada depends completely on the United States and that we do not depend on them. ”
Trump announced on Friday the end of trade negotiations between the two countries due to a tax on digital services imposed since last year by Canada on web giants and which should start to be perceived on June 30.
