At least 13 people died and more than 60 were injured in two separate coach accidents in southern Peru, authorities reported on Monday.
The deadliest accident, killing ten people, occurred in the Puno region, at high altitude, when the bus was damaged at night in a ravine, according to the local prosecution. Thirty-eight people were injured, said the health network of the city of Sandia, 1,515 km southeast of Lima.
Another coach accident in Cusco killed three people and 30 injured, police said.
Two surveys were opened.
Excessive speed, poor condition of the roads, lack of signaling and low control of the authorities are the main causes of road tragedies in Peru. In 2024, 3,173 people died in traffic accidents, police said.
