School bilingualism: six young talents crowned by the canton
Winners from all higher secondary establishments have been distinguished for their exceptional results. What highlight the mastery of the two official languages โโof the canton.
The Friborg Council of State awarded its price to the six students who obtained the best results of bilingual maturity in their respective establishment, according to a statement from the Directorate of Training and Cultural Affairs published on Monday. The winners received their distinction during graduation ceremonies organized on June 26 and 27 in the various colleges and at the general culture school in the canton.
This award is part of the cantonal policy for promoting French-German bilingualism. The Friborg Authorities consider the control of a second national language as an essential asset to strengthen the links between linguistic communities and facilitate the professional integration of young graduates.
Two possible ways
The bilingual training system in higher secondary schools offers two separate routes. Students already with solid knowledge in the partner language can directly integrate a “more” bilingual class from their first year. The other students have the opportunity to follow a branch first in the other language in the first year, then to join a “standard” bilingual class from the second year.
This training leads to an officially recognized bilingual certificate, whether at the gymnasium, the full -time business school or the general culture school.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the prices were awarded to Emilie Brenta of the Saint-Michel college, Quentin Hirt of the Sainte-Croix College, Samuel Wigginton of the college of Gambach, Agnรจs Kupferschmid of the South College, Michele Massimo Barbieri of the General Culture School of Friborg, and Emily Bรผtschi of the Intercantonal Gymnasium Broye. These six students distinguished themselves by the excellence of their results as part of their bilingual journey.
