Friday, a commercial electric aircraft landed for the first time at Findel. The Minister of Mobility, Yuriko Backs (DP), visited the entirely electric CX300 of the American manufacturer Beta Technologies during its stopover in Luxembourg. This landing is part of the company’s “Grand Tour” program, which aims to demonstrate the operational capacity of its technology in Europe. This was announced this Friday the Ministry of Mobility and the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

Discussions with the representatives of the company focused on the state of electric aircraft technology, economic opportunities for operators, decarbonization of regional air traffic and the necessary infrastructure, such as recharge, ground logistics and integration into existing airport networks. Possible cooperation between Luxembourg and manufacturers of sustainable aeronautical technologies have also been mentioned. The objective is to promote the development and use of climate -respecting technologies.

“The arrival of the CX300 in Luxembourg marks an important step in our commitment to a greener aviation,” said Yuriko Backs. Innovation in the field of electric aviation opens up concrete perspectives for regional transport more respectful of the environment. ”

The CX300 is a fixed air -spread wing aircraft. It can transport up to five people or 500 kg of freight. According to the company, it produces 75% less emissions than an Cessna 208 Caravan and is significantly quieter.

This visit would underline the ambition of Luxembourg to play “a pioneer role” in the use of sustainable transport technologies. “The Grand Duchy continues to invest in green infrastructure and collaborates with international partners to introduce clean energy solutions in all sectors,” concluded the ministry.
