Sent in reinforcement in the south of France a week ago, more than 60 Breton firefighters will find their barracks and their family, this Thursday, July 10. “They are on the way back when I speak to you,” confided, at midday, Lieutenant-Colonel Jérôme Guinard, deputy director of operations at the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) in Ille-et-Vilaine. In the Côtes-d’Armor, the arrival of the troops is scheduled around 9 p.m., against 5:45 p.m. in Finistère.
At the request of the staff of the western defense area, 24 firefighters from Ille-et-Vilaine, 20 from Finistère and 18 des Côtes-d’Armor took the road to Aude on July 4, taking with them twelve tanker trucks intended for forest fires as well as other vehicles.
“Fort possible that we are remobilized”
Mobilized as a preventive basis, this “Brittany column” intervened in the wake of its arrival in Aude, where more than 2,000 hectares were swept by the flames. It was also positioned in Hérault, in particular to fight against a fire in the town of Castelnau-de-Guers, between Montpellier and Béziers.
After a week of mobilization, the Breton SDIS were informed that the work of the column was finished and that they did not need to ensure the succession of their teams. “At this point, it is not planned that we are remobilized.
